Subject Leader for Science – Jenny Blair
My name is Jenny Blair and I am the Subject Leader for Science. Having previously been Science Lead in my primary teaching career, I have a wealth of experience and a real passion for developing high-quality Science teaching.
My interests cover all areas of Science, from exploring the living world to investigating materials, forces, light, sound, electricity and the world beyond our planet. I particularly enjoy creating opportunities for children to explore scientific ideas through practical experiences and to see how Science connects to their everyday lives.
My vision for Science at Waltham Gateway Academy is for children to develop a strong body of scientific knowledge alongside an understanding of how scientists work, think and ask questions. Through carefully sequenced learning, children will develop the skills to observe, investigate, question, analyse evidence and draw conclusions.
Curiosity is at the heart of our Science lessons. Children are encouraged to ask ’I wonder…’ questions, explore their ideas and develop the confidence to think deeply and critically. They show courage when investigations do not go as expected, recognising that mistakes help us to learn and that unexpected results are an important part of scientific discovery. They develop care for the world around them, understanding how Science can help us make informed decisions and look after our planet and one another.
Throughout their journey at Waltham Gateway Academy, I want our children to understand why Science is important and how it can help us make sense of the world in which we live. It is my hope that they will develop a lifelong love of Science and leave our school believing that their questions matter, their ideas are valuable and that there is always more to discover.
