Subject Leader for Computing – Phoebe Aisthorpe

My name is Phoebe Aisthorpe and I am the Subject Leader for Computing. Computing was the first subject I led in my teaching career and I previously worked as an EdTech Innovator in Dubai where I taught for two years. I am also a certified Apple Teacher and have attended exciting training with the viral ‘Mr P ICT’.

I believe technology can open so many doors for children. It can allow them to explore places and experiences that might otherwise be inaccessible from taking virtual trips through VR and exploring the world using AR, to creating digital artwork, composing music, coding their own games, designing animations and making films. I love seeing children discover that technology isn't simply something they consume but something they can use creatively.

Alongside the exciting opportunities technology provides, it is equally important that our children understand how to use it safely and responsibly. I want our children to be confident and informed digital citizens who understand online safety, recognise potential risks and know how to protect themselves and others.

I am also mindful of the impact that excessive screen time can have on children and believe that technology should be used purposefully and meaningfully, rather than simply for the sake of using it. As our world continues to make rapid technological advances, my aim is for our children to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to keep up with the modern world and use technology safely, creatively and effectively.
