Subject Leader for Mathematics – Phoebe Aisthorpe
My name is Phoebe Aisthorpe and I am the Subject Leader for mathematics. I have been a Maths Lead for 3 years working in collaboration with Yorkshire and Humber Maths Hub. I am currently studying to become a Primary Mathematics Specialist with the NCETM and have almost completed my National Professional Qualification in Leading Mathematics. I studied maths through to A Level and continued to develop my subject knowledge through my Masters in Education, where mathematics was one of my specialisms.
I have always loved maths and the way it can be found in so many aspects of our everyday lives. From working out prices and change when shopping, reading timetables, measuring ingredients, understanding scores and statistics in sport and recognising patterns in nature - maths is everywhere! I particularly enjoy the challenge of working through a tricky problem, trying different approaches and discovering that moment when everything suddenly comes together.

My aim is for all children to become confident and resilient mathematicians who can make connections, reason mathematically and explain their ideas clearly. I want children to develop fluency in key number facts while also understanding the ‘why’ behind the mathematics they are learning. Most importantly, I want children to enjoy mathematics, feel proud of their achievements and leave primary school believing that they are mathematicians who can tackle challenges and solve problems.
